Sunday Brunch @ Sage..
If you live in LA (or within and hour of it) and you haven’t been over to Sage Bistro in Echo Park yet for brunch, what is your problem? You are blowing it..ESPECIALLY if you are veggie or vegan. WOW, this place sets the bar high for vegan brunch..
I went with my favorite brunch buddy, miss allison dill, and we split 2 things-chia coconut french toast (on special) that was encrusted with granola and served with fresh strawberries and bananas on top, and the spinach avocado walnut-sausage florentine. daaang. that is all i have to say, dang! Both were amazing, a little sweet, a little savory. Perfect. the french toast was mind-blowing and i wanted another order the minute i took my last bite, and the walnut sausage on the florentine was incredible and so hearty and inventive. i loved that it wasn’t just tempeh or some soy product. allison also got some massive caramel latte that looks like it was served out of a planter from IKEA.
i’m already planning when we can go again..

Charmed Scones. MMM. Triple chocolate? yes, please!
Glad these are available at Swork Coffee in Eagle Rock. Swork sells a few kinds, but this was the only vegan option when i went. They are actually more like dense little cookies than scones, which is fine by me, and one of the few gluten-free sweets i actually think are good. They are 3 bucks a package for 2 lil hearts. Get some!
of course you can always order them online too, if that’s your thing or you’re not local.
So, today is Food Porn Friday and i told myself to “GET YO GREENS!”, so here they are, my way.. The salad (simply called the salad on the menu) from Hugo’s Tacos is amazing. it’s their version of a mexi caesar and it is SO delicious..romaine letttuce, mixed grilled veggies, vegan or regular cheese, pico de gallo, and spicy (it ain’t that spicy, cos i’m a wussy) caesar dressing. you can add a filling of homemade soyrizo or chicken, fish, etc.. and FUN FACT-if you eat it with chips and salsa, you can make 2 meals out of it! Then i had my fave drink lately, instant iced green tea from yama moto yama company (available at Japanese Markets). Hugo’s has good agua frescas, but this is just from my house. green on green, yo!
