Sunday Brunch @ Sage..
If you live in LA (or within and hour of it) and you haven’t been over to Sage Bistro in Echo Park yet for brunch, what is your problem? You are blowing it..ESPECIALLY if you are veggie or vegan. WOW, this place sets the bar high for vegan brunch..
I went with my favorite brunch buddy, miss allison dill, and we split 2 things-chia coconut french toast (on special) that was encrusted with granola and served with fresh strawberries and bananas on top, and the spinach avocado walnut-sausage florentine. daaang. that is all i have to say, dang! Both were amazing, a little sweet, a little savory. Perfect. the french toast was mind-blowing and i wanted another order the minute i took my last bite, and the walnut sausage on the florentine was incredible and so hearty and inventive. i loved that it wasn’t just tempeh or some soy product. allison also got some massive caramel latte that looks like it was served out of a planter from IKEA.
i’m already planning when we can go again..

Sunday Brunch + Flore = YUM
Sometimes a girl just needs a Denver omelette, biscuits and gravy, potatoes with ketchup and hot sauce, and a friend to split it with her. every Sat and Sunday from 10am-1pm people line up for Flore’s hearty and tasty vegan brunch in Silver Lake. big ol’ plates piled high with some good food. oh, and they have TWO dessert cases. one with flaky pastries and cookies by the cash register and the other with cakes and pies. allison and i got a pain au chocolat and a blackberry puff pastry thing (pinwheel maybe?) to finish off our meal even though i swore “i’m gonna burst!”.. yum yum yum, the perfect ending to a great breakkie. i even had plenty of scraps for another meal later. So, if you go and they say it’s gonna be 30 minutes for a table, wait..it’s worth it.
daydreaming of that—a fun, delicious brunch with friends..
when all you have time for is this.
FPF!!! FOOD PORN FRIDAY!
i am going to London soon to visit my friend so i’ve been inspired to make traditional english breakfast, vegan style. it’s probably in my top 3 breakfasts, and i LOVE breakfast.
the typical english breakfast has a lot of meat, so i remember years ago when i was there, getting mushrooms and tomatoes on the veggie version. i make a few slices of toast, open a can of baked beans, grill some good tomatoes (heirlooms, i’m talking about you!) in olive oil and add salt and pepper, blacken some cremini mushrooms with a splash of tamari and chili powder, and grill up a “sausage” of some sort.
in these photos, of two different plates, i have soy sausage from the korean market, (that really tastes more like ham) and apple sage Field Roast. i don’t know which was better, they were both amazing. i HIGHLY recommend everyone do this. put those beans on toast and sop up all the goodness of that plate. this could even be dinner! i make a cup of PG TIPS tea with milk and sugar to go with.
happy eating!
Flore in Silver Lake does an awesome brunch, vegan style, served every Sat and Sunday til 1pm. You might have to wait in line for half an hour, but it’ll be worth it. There are plenty of cute dogs to distract you or u can get a juice from the place 2 doors down, while you wait. The portions are big and messy and under 10 bucks. I always run into someone i know, which is fun, and seem to overhear funny and sometimes embarassing conversations from people at the tables next to me. Good way to spend a lazy weekend morning.
