jackfruit tuna melt? yes, please! turns out, it was a really really really good sandwich…

Sage bistro in echo park, again i know, with my friend christine. My jackfruit “tuna” melt was SO good. Her salad could have been better, but you know, it’s a healthy, lite salad.

Bao Chika Bao Bao!

Jackfruit Bao with peanut hoisin sauce..these are from Susan Feniger’s STREET and they are my favorite! vegan fyi..

a couple hot days in a row and i already want it to be summer, so i can eat stuff like this all day long…nectarines and loquats and mexican feasts.

Sunday Brunch @ Sage..

If you live in LA (or within and hour of it) and you haven’t been over to Sage Bistro in Echo Park yet for brunch, what is your problem? You are blowing it..ESPECIALLY if you are veggie or vegan. WOW, this place sets the bar high for vegan brunch..

I went with my favorite brunch buddy, miss allison dill, and we split 2 things-chia coconut french toast (on special) that was encrusted with granola and served with fresh strawberries and bananas on top, and the spinach avocado walnut-sausage florentine. daaang. that is all i have to say, dang! Both were amazing, a little sweet, a little savory. Perfect. the french toast was mind-blowing and i wanted another order the minute i took my last bite, and the walnut sausage on the florentine was incredible and so hearty and inventive. i loved that it wasn’t just tempeh or some soy product. allison also got some massive caramel latte that looks like it was served out of a planter from IKEA.

i’m already planning when we can go again..

Brunch is no joke to me..whether i go out or stay in, it has to be awesome!

Had a friend over for brunch a few weeks ago and had some re-heated pastries (sweet and savory) from the Farmer’s Market, sauteed spinach, strawberries, and coffee. Simple yet delicious and hit the spot!

Charmed Scones. MMM. Triple chocolate? yes, please!

Glad these are available at Swork Coffee in Eagle Rock. Swork sells a few kinds, but this was the only vegan option when i went. They are actually more like dense little cookies than scones, which is fine by me, and one of the few gluten-free sweets i actually think are good. They are 3 bucks a package for 2 lil hearts. Get some!

of course you can always order them online too, if that’s your thing or you’re not local.

The first time i saw this dude was the day after Xmas. I actually thought he might be dead, but since then i’ve since seen him 2 more times. He always looks the same— laying on his back, completely passed out, surrounded by cups and trash and no one even bats an eye. I made up this story (in my mind) that he works all night and gets fast food early in the morning, then passes out for a few hours before catching the bus home.

Sunday Brunch + Flore = YUM

Sometimes a girl just needs a Denver omelette, biscuits and gravy, potatoes with ketchup and hot sauce, and a friend to split it with her. every Sat and Sunday from 10am-1pm people line up for Flore’s hearty and tasty vegan brunch in Silver Lake. big ol’ plates piled high with some good food. oh, and they have TWO dessert cases. one with flaky pastries and cookies by the cash register and the other with cakes and pies. allison and i got a pain au chocolat and a blackberry puff pastry thing (pinwheel maybe?) to finish off our meal even though i swore “i’m gonna burst!”.. yum yum yum, the perfect ending to a great breakkie. i even had plenty of scraps for another meal later. So, if you go and they say it’s gonna be 30 minutes for a table, wait..it’s worth it.

what you make your camera focus on can change the shot completely…i was up early to see the sun rise (VERY rare for me) last weekend and i captured this. it was gorgeous and starting to rain.

PS. Michael Jackson is buried in that cemetery on the hill (that’s the Castle-looking place).
