Mildreds..my favorite restaurant in London.
i actually ate there 3 times in 10 days! yeah, i liked it that much..
these pix are from 3 different visits. the thing i got EVERY time i went (and what brought me back) was this roman artichoke appetizer. it came with crostini and homemade basil mayonnaise. I ate it slowly and savoured it. i was glad i didn’t have to share it with anyone. it was all about the basil mayonnaise. it was light and fluffy and wasn’t like Vegenaise or anything in the states that i’ve tasted. they made it in house and it was probably the best thing i ate on my whole trip/food tour. i scraped the plate, SO fucking delicious. my mouth is watering and my tummy is growling for it now, just at the mention of it…I had a favourite dessert too, i got it twice, the peach tarte tatin. i called it a peach puff cos it was puff pastry with halved peaches baked into it, topped with amazing ice cream, almonds, and a syrup of some sort. oh man, i want one now. one visit i strayed and tried the mango cheesecake. it was ok, not as sweet and cream cheesey as i would’ve liked. oh, but that peach dessert, dang, that was fantastic! those were the highlights. peach tarte tatin and roman artichoke.
As far as the other food, i got a good gnocchi on special one night with eggplant, peppers, and capers that was delicious, another night a mushroom ale pie with mushy peas (i’ve never had them and they were soooo good!) and sweet potato fries, and then i got an eggplant, olive, and chickpea tagine with flatbread, harissa, and flaked almond lemon cous cous that i really liked as well. the food was good quality, felt like their was some love in it and it satisfied me after being out all day. the spot is small, so expect a wait (one night it was an hour) but there is a counter if you’re dining by yourself that’s easy to get a spot at. Mildreds is a vegetarian restaurant but they clearly have marked what’s vegan or vegan friendly. it is located in soho and close to everything. it’s right by the Piccadilly Circus underground station as well. there’s good people watching to be had and plenty to do in this part of town. those streets are tricky though, twisting and turning and it can be confusing. i got lost every time i went there.
if you go, i cross my fingers for you they have the artichoke app and the peach tarte still on the menu, just saying..
